How to prepare a print-ready file: 6 rules that save time and money

Bleed, CMYK, resolution and fonts - the most common file mistakes and how to avoid them before they reach the print shop.

Most print delays are caused by files, not machines. Here is what we check on every file.

1. 3 mm bleed

Anything that runs to the edge must extend 3 mm past the trim line, or a white sliver may appear after cutting.

2. CMYK, not RGB

Screens show RGB; presses print CMYK. Bright RGB colours (especially greens and blues) print darker.

3. 300 dpi resolution

For anything viewed at hand distance. Web images (72 dpi) look blurry.

4. Outline fonts

If we do not have your font, the system substitutes it.

5. Safe zone

Keep text 3-5 mm from the edge.

6. One PDF, all pages

For brochures send a single PDF with pages in order.
